May Newsletter

Father Gabriel Council 3746

May is here, and Spring is in the air. We have a lot going on this month, and there are plenty of opportunities for you to help our Council and our Parish out.

We open May with a multitude of events coming fast and furious. Friday, May 5th will be a Latin Night at the hall. We will be celebrating Cinco de mayo with Latin food, and dancing to the music of DJ Sammy. Tickets are $15 per person, and $25 per couple. This event will take place in our main banquet room. Since it is on a Friday, our lounge will still be open to the regular crowd, but with a limited food menu (based on Johnnie’s amazing Latin Night menu).

Saturday, May 6th we will be having a Kentucky Derby night in the lounge, and a special event in the main banquet room. All Brother Knights are strongly encouraged to attend the special event (ask around if you don’t know what it is… it’s a surprise)

We will have our regularly scheduled meetings on Tuesday the 9th, and Tuesday the 23rd in the Council Chambers at 7 pm. On the 9th, we will be nominating officers for next year, and on the 23rd we will be electing officers. Please attend these meetings for the good of the order.

On Wednesday May 10th, we will be doing a 2nd degree exemplification. If you haven’t achieved the 2nd degree make sure to be at the hall by 6:30 pm. All other Brother Knights are encouraged to be there at 7:00 pm to encourage our members becoming 2nd degree Knights.

We our pleased to announce new sign up sheets for events on the website. If you would like to sign up to volunteer at an upcoming event, please go here.

John F. Kennedy Assembly #1593

The 4th Degree will be having our monthly meeting on May 1st. This meeting will be the election of officers, so everyone is encouraged to be there for the good of the order. If you are not there to vote, you can’t complain…

On Friday May 5th, Bishop Noonan will be at Our Lady of Lourdes for Confirmation. The Parish has asked the Knights to be there in Regalia. Please let us know at the meeting on May 1st if you can attend.

There will be an update to this section after the meeting.

Columbus Club

The Columbus Club thanks the Council for the support during April. We had a great month! We will be adding sign up sheets for volunteer opportunities at future events soon. Please keep an eye on the sign up sheet page.

We will be having our monthly meeting on May 15th in the lounge at 7:00 pm. All board members should attend, all other CCB members are invited to attend as well.

A Note From Our Field Agent

Update Your Beneficiaries

Sometimes it is easy to overlook the simplest of things.

Take, for example, the beneficiaries on your life insurance policies. If your policy was applied for and issued several years ago, it may very well be that the person you originally selected as the beneficiary is no longer the person you would want to receive the policy proceeds. If you bought the policy when you were single, for example, you may have named your parents as beneficiaries. If you have since married, your policies should be updated to reflect your spouse as beneficiary. Maybe you’ve had children since, who are not named on the policies.

Most people list a primary beneficiary, who is specifically designated as the first in priority to receive policy proceeds. We also encourage the naming of a contingent beneficiary, an alternate person designated to receive policy proceeds, usually in the event that the original beneficiary pre-deceases the insured.

I routinely call all of my policyholders for annual review appointments, usually near the anniversary date of your policy – that is, the date it was originally issued. One of the matters that I’ll discuss during this review is the status of your beneficiary designations. If they need updating, and they often do, I can complete the paperwork during that appointment.

I look forward to meeting with each of you to discuss your family’s needs.

Parish Events

There is a lot going on at Our Lady of Lourdes in May!

May 4th, at 8:15 am, Our Lady of Lourdes School will be celebrating Mass in front of the school, and crowning Mary and celebrating her month. This is a wonderful Mass and if you haven’t been, I highly recommend it.

That night, Thursday May 4th, at 6 pm, we will be having a going away party for Deacon Rick at the Parish Hall. Deacon Rick is a 3rd Degree Knight, and has been a integral part of this community. He and his wife are retiring to the mountains and we wish them the best. The Parish has asked the Knights to aid in the set up for the event from noon – 4 pm on the day of the event, and a few Knights are needed to serve drinks during the event. If you wish to help, you can sign up here.

On Friday May 5th, Bishop Noonan will be at Our Lady of Lourdes for Confirmation. The Parish has asked the Knights to be there in Regalia. Support the Knights, our Parish, and our Dioceses by attending this special Mass at 7:00 pm (then head over to the hall for Latin Knight!).

For Mothers Day, Please help OLL adorn the Altar and honor your mother by purchasing flowers for your Mom.  They will be displayed on the Altar at Mass on the weekend of May13/14.  The form is in the bulletin or here.  Spanish is here.
